Applus+ IDIADA has recently acquired the “Soufflerie Climatique Ile de France (SCIdF)” near Paris. This high-performance climatic wind tunnel facility allows the company to expand the thermal management services offered in-house and provide a valuable resource to its clients.
The main features of the facility include a 4WD rolling bench, 550 kW fan for wind simulation able to achieve up to 250 kph, and a refrigeration system for temperature (-35ºC to 55ºC) and humidity control. Thanks to its adjustable test section and different nozzles’ vehicle, it is possible to test from small electric vehicles up to commercial vehicles.
The primary purpose of this climatic wind tunnel facility is to support IDIADA’s cooling and HVAC development projects, also keeping it accessible to its clients for their own projects, but now with the possibility to request IDIADA’s added-value engineering support.
The most common testing activities will be focused on engine cooling and HVAC evaluations, including system performance, logic and controls evaluation, and energy management optimization.
“With the acquisition of SCIdF, IDIADA completes its wide portfolio of facilities for thermal management activities, which already included several climatic chambers and cooling and HVAC test benches. This climatic facility will support our thermal activities throughout the entire development process: benchmarking, simulation providing experimental data for correlation, and validation”, said Xavier Cort, Senior Product Manager in Aerothermal & Driving Performance, e-Powertrain, at Applus+ IDIADA.
