Summary: RML Group has expanded its VarEVolt battery range with three new module types aimed at performance hybrid and battery-electric applications, which will be unveiled at Battery Show Europe 2026 in Stuttgart on 9 to 11 June 2026.

Key engineering takeaway: The expanded VarEVolt battery range spans a High Power HEV module (36×21700 cells), an Ultra-High Power HEV module (24×26700 cells) built for fast charge/discharge motorsport duty, and a 21700-based BEV module that favours energy density. All use commercially available cells; RML can fit different cells to each module to fine-tune power and energy, and can alter the cell configuration to suit an application’s exact voltage and energy needs.

Why it matters: Building the VarEVolt battery range around off-the-shelf cells plus RML’s own thermal management and pack design lets engineers tune the power-versus-energy balance without bespoke cell supply, offering a route to performance hybridisation that keeps established supply chains intact.

RML Group, the UK-based high-performance automotive engineering specialist, has unveiled several new additions to its VarEVolt battery range, developed to meet the increasingly diverse requirements of performance hybrid and BEV applications.

Drawing on battery development expertise gained through programmes in the hypercar, motorsport and high-performance vehicle sectors, the expanded VarEVolt portfolio has been engineered to deliver a range of power and energy characteristics tailored to specific vehicle use cases. The new modules combine advanced thermal management, optimised cell packaging and scalable architecture to support applications ranging from track-focused hybrid systems to road-going performance vehicles.

Three Modules In The Expanded VarEVolt Battery Range

The newly expanded line-up of VarEVolt modules now includes:

  • High Power HEV – using 36 off 21700 cells, this combines high discharge and charge capability in a cost-effective solution for applications where peak power density is prioritised over energy.
  • Ultra-High Power HEV – using 24 off 26700 cells, this is optimised for applications requiring even higher peak power density and fast charge/discharge cycling, making it suitable for motorsport and extreme-performance hybrid systems.
  • BEV – using 21700 cells, this module provides increased energy density while maintaining strong power characteristics, offering a balance between range and performance.

With established links to several of the world’s cell suppliers, RML can fit different cells to each of these modules, thereby fine-tuning the power and energy. Similarly, the cell configuration can be altered to suit the application’s exact voltage and energy needs.

Why RML Builds Around Commercially Available Cells

The expanded VarEVolt range has been designed around commercially available cell technologies, enabling manufacturers to benefit from established supply chains while accessing battery systems developed using RML’s expertise in thermal management, packaging and performance optimisation.

Over the past year, we have seen growing interest from niche vehicle manufacturers and OEMs in high-performance hybrid architectures. For many applications, hybridisation offers an effective route to meeting performance, drivability and emissions objectives without the compromises associated with large battery-electric platforms.

Our experience developing battery systems for demanding EV and hybrid applications has enabled us to create a flexible range of products that can be adapted to different vehicle requirements. By combining proven cell technologies with advanced pack design and thermal management, we can help manufacturers accelerate development programmes while maintaining confidence in performance and supply-chain resilience.
