Summary: Henkel has launched two new thermal interface materials aimed squarely at EV battery thermal management: Bergquist TGF 2030APS, a silicone-free two-component thermal gap filler dispensable at over 40 cc/sec, and Loctite TLB 9270APS, a two-component polyurethane adhesive for cell-to-pack designs. Both are positioned for high-volume EV battery line use.

Key engineering takeaway: TGF 2030APS delivers 1.7 W/m·K thermal conductivity with low compression force, intended to limit assembly damage on sensitive cell stacks. TLB 9270APS delivers 2 W/m·K plus high bond strength and electrical insulation, is particularly well suited to aluminium and PET film substrates, and offers a long working time of 40 to 45 minutes in typical conditions. Bergquist TGF 2030APS also cures at room temperature, which Henkel says supports energy-efficient processing during assembly.

Why it matters: As EV battery systems move towards higher energy densities, fast-charging capability and new architectures, EV battery thermal management is becoming increasingly critical. The gap filler’s silicone-free formulation and low compression force allow its use in sensitive battery applications while minimising damage risk during assembly.

As electric vehicle battery systems continue to evolve toward higher energy densities, fast-charging capability and new architectures, effective thermal management is becoming increasingly critical. To support OEMs and battery manufacturers in meeting these challenges, Henkel has launched two new thermal interface materials for electric vehicle batteries: Bergquist TGF 2030APS, a silicone-free two-component thermal gap filler, and Loctite TLB 9270APS, a polyurethane-based two-component thermally conductive adhesive.

The materials are designed to help manufacturers manage the increasing performance requirements associated with modern EV battery systems while supporting high-volume, cost-efficient production.

Two New Materials For EV Battery Thermal Management

With 1.7 W/m·K thermal conductivity, Bergquist TGF 2030APS enables efficient heat dissipation from the battery cell stack into the cooling plate in EV battery modules. Dispensable at a high rate (over 40 cc/sec), it can be used in sensitive battery applications thanks to its silicone-free formulation and low compression force, minimizing damage risk during assembly.

In addition, Bergquist TGF 2030APS is designed for a reduced carbon footprint, reflecting Henkel’s strategic focus on developing low-emission, more sustainable product solutions. Its room-temperature curing capability further supports energy-efficient processing during assembly, helping manufacturers advance sustainability objectives without compromising performance or productivity.

Loctite TLB 9270APS is a two-component polyurethane-based adhesive for electric vehicles with cell-to-pack battery designs. It delivers 2 W/m·K thermal conductivity, along with high bond strength and electrical insulation properties, and is particularly well suited to aluminum and PET film substrates.

With rapid dispensing to support production throughput and energy efficiency, it offers a long working time (40–45 minutes in typical conditions). It is also solvent-free and formulated to comply with high regulatory and safety standards.

Adhesive Targeted At Cell-To-Pack Battery Designs

“Henkel is a long-standing design and innovation partner to the e-mobility industry, with a track record of delivering cutting-edge thermal management solutions that perform in demanding environments,” says Dr. Tobias Knecht, Global Market Strategy Head for E-Mobility at Henkel. “As battery designs evolve fast – with increasing capacity and new architectures such as cell-to-pack and cell-to-chassis – we are committed to bringing manufacturers multi-functional and innovative thermal interface materials to meet these changing requirements. The launches of Bergquist TGF 2030APS and Loctite TLB 9270APS mark the latest step in fulfilling this commitment.”

Henkel will showcase its latest innovations and newly launched solutions for electric vehicle battery systems at The Battery Show Europe, taking place June 9–11 at Messe Stuttgart, Germany. At the event, visitors will have the opportunity to discover Henkel’s advanced thermal management technologies first-hand and explore a broad portfolio of materials designed to enable safer, higher-performing and more sustainable next-generation EV batteries.
