Applus+ IDIADA, a global leader in automotive testing and engineering services, is pleased to announce the opening of its cutting-edge Battery Safety Lab. This significant expansion of our testing and validation capabilities marks a new era in ensuring the highest standards of safety and performance for battery systems in the automotive industry.
Expansive Facility
The new lab boasts over 2,000 square meters dedicated to battery abuse testing, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive facilities of its kind.
Advanced Battery Safety Testing Capabilities
Our facility offers comprehensive abuse testing capabilities for product safety and durability. We conduct a wide range of tests including thermal propagation (nail penetration and over-heating scenarios), fire resistance, drop tests, crush, and water immersion. These procedures allow us to evaluate and improve product performance under various challenging conditions, ensuring they meet necessary safety and quality standards.
Environmental Safety Measures
The facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art environmental protection systems, including gas scrubbing and water treatment, thus preventing any harmful effects on the environment that could arise from the rigorous testing procedures.
Comprehensive Battery Engineering Services
The laboratory supports IDIADA’s comprehensive battery engineering services. These services cover the entire development process, from initial cell selection and integration to virtual development techniques. Our battery experts conduct full a system validation, combining abuse tests with other test programs such as ageing and performance. This comprehensive approach ensures a thorough and effective battery engineering and development process.
“This new Battery Safety Lab represents a major leap forward in our commitment to innovation and safety in the rapidly evolving field of battery technology,” states Miquel Maureso, Head of e-Powertrain at Applus+ IDIADA. “As the automotive industry continues its shift towards electrification, our expanded capabilities will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and performance of next-generation battery systems”, he adds.
The opening of these facilities strengthens Applus+ IDIADA’s position in battery development services and safety testing, demonstrating our commitment to innovation and our contribution to the automotive industry’s transition towards sustainable mobility solutions.
